Luhmühlen, Germany —June 13—At the end of the second day of dressage at the Longines Luhmühlen CCI5*-L, Great Britain's Laura Collett and London 52 slotted into the lead. Their beautiful test was rewarded with a big round of applause and a score of 25.4.

Collett was overjoyed with her horse’s performance. “He was definitely a little bit on edge, it’s quite an atmosphere in there but he loves an atmosphere," she said. "He’s just a dream, and now I know I can trust him and enjoy the ride. I think he was trying to show off a little bit but nowadays even when he’s on edge he still listens. The closer we got to here, the more I felt pressure because he deserves to win every event he goes to and I don’t want to let him down. I don’t think it’s going to be a dressage competition. The cross-country course is very intense, and it will be quite difficult to get the time. It’s going to be a real whirlwind from start to finish. It’s beautifully built with a variety of question. Horses and riders have to be on their A-game. It’s a challenge but I will focus on one jump at a time and remember who I’m sat on, trust him and not interfere.”

Ros Canter (GBR) and Izilot DHI were last to go today and are right on Collett’s heels, currently in second place (26.0). “I’m absolutely over the moon with Izilot," she said. "He's a spooky chap but time and time again he manages to pull it off. We're much more secure with each other now. He’s 12 years old, and we’ve been together for a long time. I think he’s trusting me a bit more, and I’m certainly trusting him more. I know his quirks inside out now and don’t let them bother me anymore. So I think it’s about building a relationship.

"The coss-country is going to be fast all the way around like riding a short format for 11 minutes," she added. "It’ll be interesting to see how switched on the horses stay all the way around. Each individual fence is very jumpable but when you put them all together it’s an intense course.”

Malin Hansen-Hotopp (GER) and Carlitos Quidditch K are currently in third place (28.9). “I'm overjoyed," she said. "At first I was a little worried he was a little too switched on because he was impressed by the atmosphere, but that probably made him even more expressive. He had a bit too much tension in the warmup, but was then able to focus in the arena. Tomorrow we're off to the cross-country. I think it's a great course, very demanding but very well designed. The ground is perfect; it couldn't be better. There are many technical challenges, which will certainly be selective, but I think they are great tasks that are with precise riding and courage. At the end of the course, many jumps are equipped with the MIM system. I personally think that makes sense because you have to ride well to the end. My gut feeling is great."
