"Out of Bounds” Shines a Light on the Experiences of Victims of Sexual Abuse

By Kaleigh Collett - USEA Staff | Press Release | November 3, 2025

In August of 2025, #WeRideTogether, a USEA Educational Partner and a nonprofit organization created to cast light upon the endemic issue of sexual abuse in youth and amateur sports, released "Out of Bounds," a bold video series that exposes the realities of grooming and abuse in sports. Since then, the series has gone viral, reaching more than 25 million viewers in the first few weeks of the launch.

Through emotionally charged storytelling, the series educates, empowers, and amplifies survivor voices—sparking recognition, conversation, and cultural change before abuse happens. This isn’t a regular PSA; it is the human experience.

"Out of Bounds" is grounded, human, and intentionally uncomfortable—because protecting athletes means protecting sports.

Hear from #WeRideTogether Founder and President, Carrie Kehring, below on the impacts of "Out of Bounds" so far.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • More than 50% of athletes experience abuse in sports.
  • 13 to 15 years old is the average age of the first incident of verbal, physical, or sexual abuse in sports.
  • Authority figures and peers such as coaches, trainers, sporting staff, and teammates, are the most common perpetrators of all types of abuse in sports.
  • The average age of disclosure of childhood sexual abuse ranges from 40 to 50 years old.
  • Over 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator in some way.

About #WeRideTogether

Founded in 2021, #WeRideTogether started as an awareness campaign and educational website designed to empower, inform, and unite the equestrian community around sexual misconduct prevention and create healthy training environments for all sports. Showcasing powerful first-person interviews from sexual abuse survivors, #WeRideTogether promotes transparent dialogue around sexual misconduct, raises awareness for the many forms grooming and abuse can take, and helps diminish the stigma and fear of coming forward by giving survivors a safe platform to share their voices. The organization has since grown into a 501(c)3 and is creating a blueprint to help make all sports safer for youth, amateur, and professional athletes.
